  • Chamber’s Leadership Effingham program bolsters community changemakers

A community’s health and well-being are often measured by the volunteer and civic contributions of its leaders. Those who serve on boards, alongside municipal authorities, and on local commissions join forces with others who lead community groups, head non-profit organizations, and serve as elected officials to render a positive and lasting impact.

Circa 1989, Leadership Effingham was launched by the Chamber in collaboration with vested changemakers to nurture Effingham’s trailblazers, developing interest and ability to benefit future leadership roles and long-term investment in our local communities. For nearly two decades, Leadership Effingham has provided participants with a better understanding of how this community works, the opportunity to build relationships with the region’s leaders, and inspiration to use their talents to serve the community.

This year, 25 Leadership Effingham participants will benefit from getting to know one another and exchanging ideas and experiences. They will be exposed to Leadership and Professional Development, Government and Civic Engagement, Economic Development, Social Services and Corporate Citizenship, Education, Public Safety, Wellness and Recreation, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and more.

These 25 participants are carefully chosen for this highly selective program. Prospective participants are required to complete a comprehensive application that includes details of their skills, professional experience, and community involvement. The time commitment for participants includes a kick-off social, a team-building retreat, 7 full-day sessions, homework assignments, a leadership library, a service project, and a graduation luncheon.
